What is Qigong?
To understand what Qigong is, it is helpful to break down the Chinese word. Qi (pronounced “chee”) means life force energy and gong means work or skill so when we practice Qigong, we are essentially learning how to work with our own life force energy.
Ancient Qigong lay the foundation for the Six Phases of Qigong Flow that I’ve learned and now work with. We Attune (become aware of our body and its current condition), we Purge (cleanse), we Tonify (nourish), we then Grow the energy, we Circulate the energy, and then at the end of our practice we take the time to Integrate.
Qigong practices can include movement, meditation, sound, visualization, breathwork, and self-massage. Some describe Qigong as a moving meditation and indeed, when you see someone practice the flowing movements it is graceful, elegant, and peaceful – like a moving meditation.
If Qi is our life force energy, the purpose of Qigong is to open the circulation so that our Qi can easily move through our meridians, our energy channels in our body. When these channels are open and our Qi is flowing freely, our body becomes filled with vibrancy.

Demonstration
During this brief video, you will get a taste of some common Qigong practices and flows including Knocking of the Door of Life, Shake the Tree, and an integration flow called Centering.
We begin with the foundation of Qigong practice, Wuji Posture. Taking the time to attune at the beginning of our practice sets the intention and brings us to the present moment ... and that is where all the Qi is!
