What is Qigong?

To understand what Qigong is, it is helpful to break down the Chinese word.  Qi (pronounced “chee”) means life force energy and gong means work or skill so when we practice Qigong, we are essentially learning how to work with our own life force energy.

Ancient Qigong lay the foundation for the Six Phases of Qigong Flow that I’ve learned and now work with.  We Attune (become aware of our body and its current condition), we Purge (cleanse), we Tonify (nourish), we then Grow the energy, we Circulate the energy, and then at the end of our practice we take the time to Integrate.

Qigong practices can include movement, meditation, sound, visualization, breathwork, and self-massage.  Some describe Qigong as a moving meditation and indeed, when you see someone practice the flowing movements it is graceful, elegant, and peaceful – like a moving meditation.

If Qi is our life force energy, the purpose of Qigong is to open the circulation so that our Qi can easily move through our meridians, our energy channels in our body.  When these channels are open and our Qi is flowing freely, our body becomes filled with vibrancy.

5-Minute Qigong
Demonstration

During this brief video, you will get a taste of some common Qigong practices and flows including Knocking of the Door of Life, Shake the Tree, and an integration flow called Centering.

We begin with the foundation of Qigong practice, Wuji Posture.  Taking the time to attune at the beginning of our practice sets the intention and brings us to the present moment ... and that is where all the Qi is!

Radiant Qi

Qi can also be described as vitality.  It is our unique life force energy, our essence.

The Webster’s dictionary defines ‘Radiant’ as “vividly bright and shining: GLOWING.  Radiating rays or reflecting beams of light.  Marked by or expressive of love, confidence, or happiness.”

This is what I want.  This is how I want to feel.

And while we are born with our Original Qi (Jing), throughout our life we also take in Acquired Qi.  Acquired Qi is what we metabolize from our food and drink, the air we breath, and Nature all around us.  We can make really great, nourishing choices to keep that radiance high like eating a diet of whole foods, drinking filtered water, and even paying attention to what we are putting on our skin, choosing clean products to reduce our toxic load.

And thankfully, we can also practice daily Qigong!  When we practice Qigong regularly, we are encouraging our energy body to stay clear of toxic energy and releasing old stagnant energy.  We are tonifying our internal organs and developing a healthy relationship with them.  We are steadily taking our Qi and refining it, strengthening it until it is light, bright, and powerful!

A little bit about me ...

Welcome! I am so glad you're here.

My journey into holistic wellness began with nutrition, but over time, I realized that true well-being required more than just a wholesome diet. I needed something to support not just my body, but my mind and spirit as well. That’s when I discovered the power of energetic health.

My first introduction to energy work was through Donna Eden, a pioneer in the field of energy medicine who teaches simple yet powerful techniques to balance the body’s energy systems. Her practices resonated deeply with me, and as I explored them, I became increasingly fascinated by the connection between movement and energetic health. That’s when I found Qigong. A simple YouTube video with Marisa Cranfill of YOQI set me on a path I never expected—but one that felt completely right. Little did I know that years later, in 2024, I would have the incredible opportunity to train with her in person ...
